Take FitMapped. One of its co-founders, Anita Mirchandani, a dietician consultant, noticed a need for an app that can help patients achieve their fitness goals. With the help of co-founder Michelle Velasquez, a lawyer, Ms. Mirchandani created the app, which allows users to explore local fitness options. Someone searching for a yoga class on the Upper East Side, for example, could use the app to find and book a session. The pair researched local gyms, boutique studios and recreational centers to create their own database, cross-referencing it with sources ranging from Google to individual blogs.
